Shrimp farms, mangroves to coexist in the Sundarbans

A new initiative of sustainable shrimp cultivation provides hope for mangroverestoration in the Sundarbans. For several years, environmentalists and experts have expressed concern over unsustainable aquaculture, particularly shrimp collection, after cleaning large tracts of mangrove forests in the Sundarbans.
Under the initiative, Sustainable Aquaculture In
Mangrove Ecosystem (SAIME), farmers have taken up cultivation of shrimp on 20 hectares at Chaital in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas, and 10 hectares at Madhabpur in adjoining South 24 Parganas. However, they are doing their part in restoring the mangroves as well. Fishing, particularly shrimp cultivation, is one of the key occupations of the people of the Sundarbans, which is a complex network of rivers and lowlying islands that face a tide surge twice a day. Shrimp cultivation is practised in 15,000 to 20,000 hectares of the unique ecosystem in India. The Sundarbans forest is about 10,000 sq. km across India and Bangladesh, of which 40% lies in India.

What is Pollution ?

Environmental pollution refers to any undesirable like physical, chemical & biological change ,whiuch is harmful for livings and nonlivings.

What is Environment ?

Environment means Surroundings,Which includes lithosphere, hydrosphere and Atmosphere.

What is Biosphere ?

The zone of contact of Lithosphere,Hydrosphere & Atmosphere is called Biosphere. We called biosphere  because in this zone organism are founds.

Types of Pollution

Natural Pollution

It occurs Because of Natural Activity.

For example :-Emission of Co2, So2, SPM etc, Just Because of Volcanic Activity.

Emission of CO, CO2, NO2, HC, SPM, etc Because of Forest Fire.

Emission of Alpha , Beeta, Gamma,  Rays  Because of Radio Active substances, Like Uranium, Radium, Radon etc.

Anthropogenic Pollution

It occurs because of Domestic ,Agricultural  Industrial Activities.

For example :-Emission  of COx
(Carbons Oxides) ,Nirogens Oxides, Sulphur oxides, SPM Because of Burning of Bio mass and fossil fuels.

Types Of Pollutants

Bio Degradable Pollutant

These are the composed by Bacteria or Biological process & reutilize by Plants.

For Example :- Agricultural waste, Ppaer, Domestic sewage etc.

Non Degradable Pollutant

These are not the composed by Bacteria or Biological process.

For Example :- Heavy Metals Like  {Arsenic, Cadmium, Copper, Mercury, Neckle , Lead,}  Plastic , Nuclear Wate, Chemical Insectisides,& Pestisides (DDT, Endosulphan, Alldrin Dialdrin etc.) These Pollutants are very Harmful.
